I was twelve when dad sat me down for ‘the talk.’ He handed me a thin white book. “I looked through every book they had until I found this one,” he said triumphantly.  I pictured my father in the bookstore thumbing through all the teenage instructional sex books and tried not to laugh. “If you have any questions, you can ask me.” I asked a question, he refused to answer, and that was the end of the talk. I didn’t bother reading the book: I knew what I wanted wasn’t in there, and I was figuring it out just fine.
