I LEARNED SOMETHING TODAY

 

Today was the day I learned

that my father had lost his mind

and isn’t likely to ever find it again.

 

I try to decide what to feel.

I try to make myself feel at all.

 

I find myself clinical, detached.

Although I’ve known him all my life

it felt as if all this was happening

to a stranger.

 

Then, of course,

I realized that it was.
